About the AOARF

The mission of the Australian Orthopaedic Association Research Foundation is to promote and support research into musculoskeletal disorders. Since the establishment of the AOA Research Fund in 1970, more than $1.65 million has been given to support over 130 research projects. Our work supports the brightest minds in orthopaedic research who are bringing the wonder of movement to patients across Australia and the world.

AOARF Research Grants

AOA Research Foundation research grants are open to all AOA members (including affiliate and associate/trainee members). Research projects may cover a broad range of clinical and laboratory investigations that are relevant to the field of orthopaedics.

PhD Scholarships

PhD Scholarships

The AOA Research Foundation (AOARF) is pleased to offer a PhD scholarship to support trainees and members who wish to take a break from clinical work to pursue a doctorate. The scholarship is open to all AOA members, but is particularly targeted at trainees who are undertaking the PhD Pathway to meet the research requirement of the AOA 21 Training Program.

Meet the Chair

Associate Professor Claudia Di Bella
Claudia is an orthopaedic surgeon and has been a General Director of the AOARF Board since 2019. She has additionally served as the Chair of the Foundations Research Advisory Committee since 2021. Claudia specialises in the comprehensive management of arthritis of the hip and knee and the treatment of bone and soft tissue tumours.
She is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Melbourne and is the clinical lead of the cartilage regeneration program and osteosarcoma 3D printing program at the Biofab3D, part of the Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD).
