Advancing the wonder of movement through musculoskeletal research
The mission of the Australian Orthopaedic Association Research Foundation is to promote and support research into musculoskeletal disorders. Since the establishment of the AOA Research Fund in 1970, more than $1.65 million has been given to support over 130 research projects.
The Foundation values excellence, integrity, sustainability and professionalism in the acquisition of knowledge through ethical research. Grants are awarded to AOA members who work in hospitals and the wider community and are driven by a passion for driving improvements in patient care, professional and ethical practice, operative procedures and surgical education. Specific funds are set aside to encourage and support young researchers in the early stages of their research careers.
The Foundation relies on generous support from AOA members and corporate partners to continue to support innovative and compelling research into musculoskeletal health. With your support, we can continue to have a far-reaching impact on musculoskeletal health in Australia and across the globe.

The Foundation was established with five key objectives.
To promote and carry out research in the field of orthopaedic medicine.
To provide research training in the field of orthopaedic medicine for postgraduate students and research fellows in both science and medicine through the establishment of scholarships, fellowships and prizes.
To support the submission and publication of scholarly contributions to journals, magazines, books and electronic media which report to the medical and scientific community on research in the field of orthopaedic medicine.
To conduct and support lectures, workshops, symposia and conferences for the purpose of promoting research and disseminating knowledge in the field of orthopaedic medicine.
To promote an improved public understanding of scientific and medical developments in the field of orthopaedic medicine.
